I love it.
I'm a real Notes user - used to be Evernote, but now Apple Notes (because these days they have good functionality, and can be shared across my MacBook, iPhone, iPad, Watch - so handy.
This reminds me of something I am doing at the moment - creating a 'lunch menu' for my daughter's school lunch boxes - using sticky notes on a board.
What occurred to me, after reading this post, is that using sticky notes with my daughters we are actually involved in a 'process' - discussing, negotiating, arguing, arranging, re-arranging, prioritising, etc.
This reminds me of my early days in teacher training. And realising that there is a great value in what we are doing by 'constructing' the notes collaboratively ... it's not just the final end result that is important - it's the process, in this case a shared process, that has value also.

100% agree.
Not only is learning essential for our growth as people, but it's fun, and it has a massive impact on our mental health.
I'm a big fan of lifelong learning, and I think whatever people want to learn, from musical instruments, to a new language, to cooking, to playing Bridge - we can learn our whole life in so many ways.

I'm afraid this content goes beyond my technical knowledge :-(
However, it's good to know that Moodle is building in this type of functionality for developers to use - and I'm sure that closed-source LMS's don't allow anything like this level of access to the community - so it's grea that Moodle does :-)

Thank you Stuart.

Ah, that reminds me of the line in Ferris Bueller's Day Off "Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it".

The thing is that there seems to be so many opinions at the moment that the facts are getting lost in the maelstrom. Though facts are facts until new facts disproves them, or rather slightly alters our understanding of them.

Fascinating reflection !
What this made me think about most, ... is that we don't always make "time to think" in this busy world now.
It's the classic line from Jurassic Park "We were so embedded in if we could do it, we didn't stop to thinks should we do it."
I love science, and scepticism, and critical thinking.
But too often the world, and in particular the media, seem more concerned with opinions than facts.
You can have opinions about anything, but science is "just the facts".

Hi Stuart,

Thank you. I think that the new year is one of the triggers of reflection, but at times there are odd little unexpected moments that trigger considerations of the past too. Though the new year does make us want to have a fresh perspective. Perhaps it also comes down to having taught where reflection of each lesson is ingrained into the professional process.

Oh, the Smart Home sounds fun! I have an Alexa that I use a bit but not really to control things. There is always the cloud to consider, though I believe its possible to achieve locally with single board machines and their add-ons - such as AI capable chips.

Kind regards,

Very interesting - a new year often promotes reflection eh ?
My 'mini project' this year is making my new house a Smart Home.
Think automated lights, security cameras, robo-vacuum, etc.
My daughters are looking forward to controlling things via voice commands !

[…] This time of year is one for reflection on what has been. Two of those reflections for me has been the work I’ve put into Adaptable for Moodle and the other being the impact of the change to a ‘public’ structure. To visualise these reflections I remembered about a piece of software called ‘Gourse’ that I first described in ‘Human or machine’. […]

Thanks Stuart.

I like driving too, but these days it can be quite stressful and need to have a working memory map of where all of the pot holes are! There is something just so civilised about rail travel, possibly because it is more established than motorised road travel. There is also more freedom to socialise with more people. And with any luck there is a 'buffet car' to make the train an almost home from home, to satisfy another of the basic human needs in life.

The Adelaide to Melbourne sounds awesome! Australia has so much scope for amazing long distant journeys, for which one day perhaps I'd like to travel on the Ghan from south to north or vice versa.

With Apple and other brands, it feels like there is an emotional attachment that is bound to the memory of what it was when you first encountered their products. It's like with people and first impressions that last. That later on when things change that there is almost disbelief and internal unwillingness to accept what has changed. But with all things and feedback, change can happen again for the better.

Great photos !
Last train journey for me was Adelaide to Melbourne - 12 hour epic but spotted lots of Kangaroo's :-)
Although I enjoy driving, I also really like trains, because you can enjoy the view, walk around, and have conversations with complete strangers.
These days, I feels like Apple are the brand that has the biggest effect on my life. I';m always conflicted about this - so much I love about Apple, but also so much that really annoys me.
