ABC guide to H5P – Accordion: accessible and dynamic

H5P Accordion is a free HTML5 WAI and ARIA compliant dynamic content type.

What I like about the Accordion is that you can dramatically reduce the initial amount of text presented to your learners at first. So although there may be fair amount of text to read, it’s not over-bearing at first glance.

The dynamic nature of the Accordion also means learners can pick and choose sections to read in quite an organic way.

The Accordion content type is highly accessible, and complies with WC3 Web Accessibility Initiative (https://www.w3.org/WAI/) and ARIA (https://www.w3.org/WAI/standards-guidelines/aria/) standards.

The learners decide which ‘headlines’ to take a closer look at by expanding the title. This dynamic approach is excellent for providing an initial overview, with optional in-depth explanations that learners can then select.

At this time Accordion is text only, no images or audio or videos content can be added. But in a way that’s quite a good thing, as it keeps the content very plain and simple

Sound interesting? You can try the Accordion resource type yourself for free on our ElearningWorld Academy site, in the H5P course.

H5P content can be used in any HTML5 environment, such as WordPress and Drupal, and there are LMS integrations for Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, and Brightspace.
