New Atto editor in Moodle 2.7

We’ve been running a Moodle 2.7 test site for a little over a month now. There’s lot of good enhancements

, but I feel the default settings for the new default editor could be better.

Things I like: the easy way to display the second row, the new accessibility icons making it much easier for teacher to think about this important area, and the ability to manage files (last icon on top row).

Atto

Things I don’t like: the fact I have to click a button to see the second row (I’d prefer it visible), the fact that Underline is not next to Bold and Italic (as it is in 99% of work processors), and the missing “prevent link” button (very useful in a Quiz when you don’t want a word in the question linking to a Glossary entry that gives the answer!)

Of course all these things can be changed by an Administrator … but I wonder how many Moodle Admins will do that, and how many Teachers will actually request changes?  Probably not enough.  And the older TinyMCE editor is still available if people prefer that.

It will be interesting to see how this Atto editor works on mobile devices, and I’ll be testing on my iPhone in the next day or two.
