In our world these days we interact with advanced machines, machines that are the result of centuries of human tool development. They are complex and require careful configuration to ensure that they operate in the way we intend them to do so. There are many ‘configurations’ with varying levels of complexity. Take the software that runs on the machine, that is a ‘configuration’ that is instructions that tell the machine what to do, and yet that has a ‘configuration’ too, a set of values associated with the particular operational functionality of the software, the settings. Hopefully that configuration you can manage yourself from the information provided to you by the developer (or via a technical writer) on what each setting does. But what of the actual software? How is this created? What is this mysterious person ‘The Developer’?

When a client contacted me asking for assistance in adding a font to the Boost theme, I created a solution for them, one that is quite straightforward to implement. I thought it would make a good post, so with their permission here it is. I’ve not written about fonts in a while and this brings me back to my roots of writing for eLearningWorld.
