Using Moodle to Improve Teaching and Learning

It’s summertime in Israel. The school year is over. Having published here quite a lot about what has happened with the use of Moodle in K-12 in the Israeli school system in general, and in my work at school in particular, it would be repetitive to recapitulate the main points I have made. I’d rather look ahead.

In the framework of The Six-Year Kugel High School, where I have been teaching since 1989, my pupils have been given the chance to review and learn using some of the Dig Into Digital Moodle courses. The following two Smore Newsletters can help you get a glimpse into that:

Let’s get ready for the 11th grade

Let’s get ready for the 12th Grade

Will my pupils jump at the chance? I do not know yet. I have not made it compulsory. I prefer to give my pupils the choice and transfer to them the responsibility for their own learning (this summer as always). They have the chance for free. It is up to them.

I also keep trying to help teachers of English in Israel get to know the Dig into Digital Moodle courses. On the one hand, I publish one Smore Newsletter a week aimed at teachers of English ,and share it on relevant Facebook groups, Whatsaap Groups and more. I get the support of the Israel Ministry of Education Engish Department for that.

The following Smore newsletter can give you a glimpse into that: Teach with Moodle Templates

On the other hand, I have long been a member of ETAI, the English Teachers’ Association of Israel (read about ETAI). On the occasion of the ETAI yearly Summer Conference, in 2013 I gave the first of several presentations concerning the use of Moodle to teach English. I will be doing so again during the coming 2022 ETAI Summer Conference.

The following is the abstract I wrote on the speaker proposal: “Moodle empowers teachers! Get a glimpse into the Moodle World: How to edit (customize) your Moodle Courses, Ministry of Education Moodle Workshops, The Moodle Academy, Moodle Documentation, Moodle Moots (gatherings to discuss and learn about Moodle),and more. When you use Moodle, you are not alone.

I guess I will be able to report here if there is anything to report. Time will tell.

Best wishes and regards from Israel!
