Best browser for online learning part 3 – Internet Explorer

How well does Microsoft’s Internet Explorer work for online learning?

In this series I’m reviewing the major web browsers, and how well they work for online learning, with particular reference to Moodle, H5P, and Big Blue Button.

It seems a little strange to be writing about Microsoft Internet Explorer, as it is officially retired by Microsoft in 2020! However, we know that many people will still be using it, especially on older computers.

It is however vital to note the Moodle 3.9 release notes:

Moodle 3.9.x (LTS) will be the last version actively supporting Internet Explorer 11. Moodle 3.10 (to be released in November 2020) will NOT support Internet Explorer 11.

This doesn’t mean Internet Explorer 11 won’t work at all with Moodle, but you can expect problems, and these will not be addressed by Moodle.

Basically if you are using using Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 (or earlier?!) then you shouldn’t be! You need to upgrade to Microsoft Edge; Microsoft have now replaced Internet Explorer with Edge.

      Hello
From what we understand the Human Resource Commission of New Zealand hosted their Moodle site with HRDNZ (Moodle Partner in New Zealand). The HRC discontinued their Moodle site in 2022.
