iRig MIC Cast

A couple of weeks ago I took delivery of an iRig MIC Cast microphone so I could use it for on-location recordings for The Free Moodle Podcast at the Australian Moodle Moot in Cairns.

Produced by IK Multimedia from Italy (I actually remember using one of their very first products back in 2002(!) called SampleTank) the iRig MIC Cast can be plugged into an iPhone, iTouch or iPad headphone socket and then acts as an external microphone.  It’s a lovely simple device that doesn’t require any setup or special equipment to use.  Although I wasn’t impressed that after buying the hardware, I then had to buy the specialist software too!  🙁

After some testing I have to say that it’s great to have for spontaneous recording, voice memos, and increasing the quality of above the mic in the iPhone.  Listen out for the July edition of The Free Moodle Podcast when we will have some interviews from the Moot using this recording setup 🙂
