Moodle 3.6 new feature – hide date edited

Why would you want to hide the date of something in Moodle? Read on to find out why…

The Moodle 3.6 release notes have a link to a Tracker item https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-41265 which most people would never read.

But this refers to a very useful feature!

Almost hidden in the Page documentation is a statement:

“The ‘last modified’ date may now be hidden if it is not useful.”

What does that mean?

Well, let’s say you create a Page in Moodle.

It will show the time and date it was created – in fact “last updated”.

Now, in the real world, I might create a Page Resource this week, and I might not need to change that for a few years, because the information it details is correct.

However, for a learner viewing the course content, this Page Resource may look 2, 3, or 4 years out of date!  Quite misleading eh?

So, this new features is great, because it means if I create a Page Resource, and I’m confident it’s not going to need updating for a while, then hiding the time and date it was last edited is really useful, and avoids confusing the learners.

Have you noticed this setting? Already using it?
