MariaDB in Moodle Forums

Moodle forums can be a great place to understand more about the MySQL / MariaDB choice.

No matter what your interest in Moodle, the Moodle forums provide a stunning useful resource.

  • Teachers – lots of help and ideas about teaching activities, resources, and approaches
  • Developers – help with understanding coding
  • Administrators – all types of technical support

For those interested in the server database choice, there are a couple of place you can read discussions. Probably the most useful is the general developer forum:

https://moodle.org/mod/forum/view.php?id=55

As with any community area, have a quick search first for possible answers to your questions in the Moodle Docs area, and within the forum itself.

A simple search such as this will provider hundreds of threads that mention MariaDB:

https://moodle.org/mod/forum/search.php?id=5&search=MariaDB

The Moodle Docs page for MariaDB is rather light though:

https://docs.moodle.org/37/en/MariaDB

Considering the factors we discussed in this series last time, and the incompatibility between the two databases now, that page is somewhat misleading.
